SNUG Concept makes RIBA House of the Year longlist
We were somewhat surprised to be on the list but it’s great news and we’re really happy the SNUG house concept of natural, super low-energy, affordable and replicable homes is being recognised.
It’s made the list for the idea of rolling out the SNUGs one the small often forgotten sites where a small home can add new life and most importantly a home within sustainable, brownfield locations.

Forest Road on RIBA Awards Shortlist
Our brilliant SNUG resident welcomed the RIBA judges to the SNUG in Bristol yesterday. The RIBA Awards require projects to be in use for a full year, so it's good we've been keeping track of the energy use since completion.
There are many things that affect the total actual energy use of building, so it is difficult to compare exactly, but from the initial review, the total actual annual energy use of the SNUG is less than 50% of the average use of an equivalent size 1 bedroom home in the UK, which feels like a good improvement, but we're keen to compare this with the actual performance of a typical new build home.
15% of the demand was provided directly by the solar PVs and this represents 33% of the total annual PV generation, with the rest going back into the grid, which points towards the integration of a domestic battery in future potentially.
We’re continuing to review the design for the next projects so will be writing more on this soon.

Future Leap Awards Win
SNUG picked up another award for the best sustainable building at the Future Leap Awards in June.
The Future Leap network was established in 2005 to aid people and organisations to move away from business as usual and to consider their practices through a sustainability lens.
Future Leap has now become one of the largest green business networks in the UK, with collaboration and innovation at the heart of everything they do, using these as tools in tackling the climate crisis together.
We are therefore really pleased to be recognised by such an organisation which shares our ideals.
‘SNUG’s work takes on a holistically low carbon design, but also brilliant spatial quality and attention to detailing. A very well-deserved win’. …Future Leap judges

SNUG Gains ISO 9001 Accreditation!
Maybe not the most exciting post to share but over the last year the team have worked hard to set up and establish our quality processes to ensure we can continue to consistently improve and deliver great homes every time.
Our aim is to deliver the best truly sustainable homes and to do that we must enshrine quality into every aspect of our work. This is one of the first steps to help us to grow, keep the quality and continue to improve!

2022 ASBP Awards Win
The gongs (or sustainably sourced wooden trophies) were handed out at the 2022 ASBP (Alliance for Sustainable Building Products) Awards earlier this year.
We really love the scope of these awards covering products, materials, systems, new and old buildings, small and large businesses...and whilst always hard to have 'winners' when there are so many great entries, we're not complaining to have bagged a trophy…..our SNUG Home in Bristol winning the Judges Award in the ‘Projects’ category and we are pleased that our efforts to integrate truly low carbon design measures and materials are gaining some traction!
Once again, thanks to our brilliant team and all our supporters, past and present, including Bristol City Council, InnovateUK, Milner Associates, Bristol Housing Festival, Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, HomeMade (Pickwell) and Bell Tools.
Check out all the brilliant projects the awards have recognised.
